The journey has begun. We were able to leave Greensboro on October 17 after going to the closing on our house. We were so thankful for the persons who helped pack the truck and others who visited or invited us to meals. At that point we were too tired to process much what had just happened, and we're not sure we've still processed everything, but it still feels like this was the right time and manner to proceed.

The truck loaded and ready to head out. |
The first stop was Salunga, PA, where we unloaded most of the truck contents into a storage unit near Ruth's Dad's place. The next day we drove to Philadelphia and delivered items to Michelle. We spent a week with our daughter. It was so good to see where she works, to meet several of her Arab friends, to visit some of the Philly sights, to attend a church service with her...but mostly just to relax.

Now we are at Ruth's Dad's home for a week until Saturday when we head to Baltimore to begin our first SOOP assignment. He is doing well and still very active. Like today, he made about 15 quarts of applesauce that he froze and then also decided to make his 18 loaves of bread since this is his usual baking day! He makes us tired! We are grateful for the time we have to visit and also take him to get things he needs.
Last Saturday we took a day trip to Baltimore to help them on a work day at the Reservoir Hill House of Peace where we will be living. Most of the 10 residents of the house were there, so it was good to meet them. Most are working in community development projects or studying in the area. Three are there as asylum seekers, and a fourth is to come soon. Jim will be doing a lot of repair and renovation work in the house and at the local Mennonite church. Ruth will help some with that but also will probably volunteer in ESL at AWE, an agency involved with helping asylum seekers. We will have a lot to learn, but hopefully can contribute to the work in Baltimore, as well. Most of the residents are young adults. This will either make us feel old, or give us young blood again!
Loaded 3 dump truck loads of 'junk' from the attic and basement of the huge house. The house has been a house for volunteer workers for many years and needed/needs a good cleaning and renovations. However, it is still a homey place and looks like an easy area to adapt to.

Spent lots of time cleaning the stove and fans. |

Please remember us as we make the move and start the assignment. We remember you all and would love to hear from you as you have time.
